To and From
Getting to Holden takes at least three forms of transportation and anywhere from half a day to two days of travel. It's one of the most remote continuously inhabited places in the lower 48. After driving to Field's Point, I took a two-hour ferry ride uplake to Lucerne. From there, Holden is a 45-minute bus ride via 11 switchbacks and 2,000 feet of elevation gain. Once there, you will receive a warm Holden Welcome, as villagers gather to greet the bus.
