It is very remote, with no roads in or out. Holden Village is a former copper mine active in the 30s-50s. It's now a Lutheran retreat center open to all who are willing to travel there by boat and by foot! It boasts pristine wilderness and an extensive trail system, including the nearby Pacific Crest Trail and close proximity to Glacier Peak Wilderness and Stehekin.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThis is one of the most challenging and rewarding illustrations I've worked on. The imagined \"three-quarters\" perspective made my brain work on overdrive. Several Holden Village staff members, who have extensively hiked the valley, helped guide this illustration and insure accuracy.
