Washington State Ferries
I created this ferry chart illustration with watercolor and ink. This chart depicts the current* fleet of 21 ferries and 20 ports (including one in our neighboring Canadian province, B.C.). There are several ferry classes, based on size and design, with the largest able to transport 2,500 passengers and 200 cars. I've drawn each ferry as accurately as possible, and labeled each with its class, build year, car and passenger capacities. This piece was a labor of love - I should calculate how many tiny windows I drew! It also includes a map of the Puget Sound / Salish Sea area highlighting all 10 routes, including Anacortes to the San Juan Islands, Edmonds to Kingston, Mukilteo to Clinton, Seattle to Bainbridge Island, and Fauntleroy to Vashon Island.
Washington State has the largest ferry system in the USA with nearly two dozen drive-on ferries serving the Puget Sound and Salish Sea areas. About 65,000 people use the ferry system here daily! 2,000 employees work for the ferry system. Without this important state-run infrastructure, Washington State would feel much more isolated.
This is an unframed archival print on high-quality matte paper. Watermark is not included on the physical print.
*I created this piece in 2020. No new boats have been added to the fleet, though some are now retired.
