Washington State Ferries Oversize Vinyl Map
This is a print on vinyl, mounted with wood dowels on top and bottom and includes pre-installed hardware for hanging. It's reminiscent of classroom pull-down maps and is ideal for a big space since it's 3 feet across and 4 feet in height.
I created this ferry illustration with watercolor and ink. This jumbo version of the chart depicts the current Summer 2020 fleet of 21 ferries and 20 ports (including one in our neighboring Canadian province - B.C.). There are several ferry classes, based on size and design with the largest about to transport 2500 passengers and 200 cars. I've drawn each ferry as accurately as possible, and labeled each with its class, build year, car and passenger capacities. This piece was a labor of love - I should calculate how many tiny windows I drew!
Washington State has the largest ferry system in the USA with nearly two dozen drive-on ferries serving the Puget Sound and Salish Sea areas. About 65,000 people use the WSDOT ferry system here daily! 2,000 employees work for the ferry system, and without this important state-run infrastructure, Washington State would feel much more isolated.
