The Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) is an amazing route from the US/Mexico border all the way to the Canadian border. It passes through California, Oregon and Washington state and through 7 national parks, 25 national forests, and numerous mountain ranges including the Cascades and Sierra Nevadas. 2,600 miles on foot and an average hike time of 6 months. Backpacking, day hiking, long hauls or short stretches...
I first learned about the PCT in college, when I went to a friend's wedding and met one of the intrepid bridesmaids, who had left her PCT hike for a week in order to attend the wedding. She told me about her trail nickname, the friends she had gained on the trail, and about the tough conditions. Since then, I've met many more who have or are hiking the PCT (including Cheryl Strayed, and her memoir Wild, at a book event) and look forward to my turn on this awe-inspiring trail.
